Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh),August 31: The death toll from flash floods in Nepal rose to 903 on Monday, as rescuers continued recovering bodies and searching for nearly 4,250 people still missing six days after the disaster.

Bodies have been recovered from all eight affected districts, with rescue teams racing against time to locate those missing and evacuate people stranded by the floods.

The disaster, which struck northern and central Nepal on August 26, is believed to have been triggered by the collapse or avalanche of ice and rock near the Nepal-Tibet border. The resulting flash floods devastated towns and villages across the region.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the highest number of bodies has been recovered from Chitwan, where 272 deaths have been recorded. Nawalparasi East reported 207 deaths, followed by Nawalparasi West with 151 and Gorkha with 62.

Rescuers have also recovered 95 bodies from Nuwakot, 55 from Dhading, 37 from Tanahu and 24 from Rasuwa.

The NDRRMA said 4,247 people remain missing, including 85 security personnel and 320 foreign nationals.

Search and rescue operations are continuing across the affected districts as authorities work to reach stranded communities and recover more victims.
