Raj said his interest in dance began during childhood. In 2002, he formed a dance group comprising 15 young men and started training them. The group performed at orchestras and other entertainment programmes, gradually gaining experience in stage performances.
He later ventured into directing video albums featuring Desia songs and local artistes. Some of his notable works include E Tila, Jhanjar Jhalia, E Kanak, E Mora Bati Chadhei, Alasi Phula and Ale Gori. Over the years, he has directed more than 40 video albums, helping promote local talent and Desia music.
In 2010, Raj decided to enter Desia-language filmmaking. Senior artiste Surendra Kuldeep encouraged him to pursue his ambition and supported his entry into the field. Since then, Raj has directed 15 Desia-language films.
His notable films include Manrasiya-1, Manrasiya-2, Suit Boot, Phul Phatas, Dhokka, Paradesia, Bhul Hela, Prem Heichhi, Ashik Heli Tor Lagi and Jaipuria Hero. Several of these films recorded strong sales of video CDs, with thousands of copies sold.
The success of Manrasiya marked a significant milestone in Raj's career. Initially, the owner of a local theatre was reluctant to screen the film. However, after repeated requests, the owner agreed, and the film went on to run for 25 days. Encouraged by its success, Raj subsequently directed Manrasiya-2.
Most of his films have been shot in Koraput district, highlighting the region's local talent, culture and landscapes.
Raj is currently working on two films, Autobala Gunda and Excel Jag, both of which are under production. Despite balancing his livelihood as a vehicle painter with his creative pursuits, he continues to contribute to the growth of Desia-language cinema.
