Baripada, May 18: A minor girl allegedly collapsed after being threatened by the officer-in-charge at Morada Police Station while trying to lodge a harassment complaint. The incident was reported from Mayurbhanj district.

According to reports, the Class 10-pass student had approached the police station with her parents alleging that a local youth had been harassing and repeatedly proposing to her on the road. However, the family alleged that the complaint was not registered and they were instead sent away by the police officer.

Later, after the matter was reportedly brought to the notice of the Betnoti SDPO, the family returned to the police station. During statement recording, the officer allegedly threatened the minor with seven years of imprisonment. Shocked by the alleged intimidation, the girl reportedly came out crying, pleaded with her parents to “save” her, and collapsed unconscious.

She was first admitted to Baramail Hospital and later shifted to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital after her condition did not improve.

The family has demanded action against the officer-in-charge, identified as Sumit Soren. Meanwhile, Krushna Chandra Das termed the incident serious and sought a fair investigation.
