Jagatsinghpur, July 18: Tension gripped Charchika Bazar in Jagatsinghpur town following the death of a pregnant woman at a private nursing home on Thursday. The deceased, identified as Sasmita Swain, wife of Ranjit Swain from Tarada village, was reportedly admitted to the facility earlier that day. Her family has alleged that medical negligence led to her untimely death.
Soon after the incident, angry relatives and villagers gathered at the nursing home, placing the woman’s body in front of the building and launching a demonstration. The protest quickly escalated, prompting authorities to deploy police personnel to maintain law and order.
The agitators are demanding compensation for the bereaved family and the immediate arrest of the doctor responsible. In a show of protest, they also blocked the Jagatsinghpur-Paradip main road, causing significant disruption to vehicular movement in the area.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
