Bhadrak, Feb 29: A Sepecial Fast-track Court on Thursday sentenced a rape accused tp 20 years rigorous imprisonment.
The convict has been identified as Mohan Kumar Kundu from Bhagbindha village under Dhamnanagar police limits in Odisha’s Bhadrak district.
Justice Minati Panda of the fast track court has sentenced the convict to a Rs 20,000 fine along with imprisonment. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of imprisonment, as per the court's ruling.
According to the sources, on January 13, 2022, 34-year-old Mohan enticed a minor girl from the same village with chocolates and other treats. He took her to a secluded spot on the Reba riverbank near the village and assaulted her. Mohan also threatened the victim with severe consequences if she revealed the incident.
Afterreturning home, the minor disclosed the ordeal to her mother, who promptly filed a report at Dhamnagar police station the following morning. Subsequently, the police registered a case (No-15/2022) under Sections 376(3), 506 of the IPC, and Sections 4, 1 of the POSCO Act, and launched an investigation.
Mohan was apprehended two days later and sent to jail.
