Balasore, July 15: The mortal remains of the victim- the 20-year-old student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College who succumbed to severe burn injuries late Sunday night, were brought to her native village Palasia in Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday. The final rites are scheduled to be performed in her village amidst widespread grief and mourning.
A deep sense of sorrow has gripped the entire village. Heart-rending scenes unfolded as family members, friends, and neighbours broke down upon seeing her body. The emotional weight of the tragedy has left the entire community devastated.
Police personnel have been deployed in Palasia to maintain law and order, as tensions remain high following the incident.
Despite the relentless efforts of a 10-member team of expert doctors at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, the victim could not be saved. She had battled for nearly 60 hours before succumbing to her injuries. According to AIIMS authorities, she was admitted to the Burns Centre ICU on 12th July after being referred from the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital.
A statement released by AIIMS Bhubaneswar confirmed her demise. “Patient, 20 years/F, was brought to casualty on 12/07/25 at 5:15 PM, referred from DHH, Balasore. She was admitted to the Burns Centre ICU,” it stated. The patient received intensive care including IV fluids, antibiotics, mechanical ventilation, and renal replacement therapy. Despite all medical interventions, she was declared clinically dead at 11:46 PM on 14/07/25.
The Chief Minister further assured the bereaved family that strict action would be taken against those responsible. “I assure the family of the deceased student that all those guilty in this case will face the strictest punishment as per the law. For this, I have personally issued instructions to the authorities. The government stands firmly with the family.”
Victim’s tragic death has sparked outrage and demands for justice across Odisha. As her village prepares to bid a final farewell, the larger question of student safety and accountability in educational institutions continues to loom large.
