Puri, July 9: The deities of the Jagannath Temple, currently atop their three chariots at Saradha Bali, will be escorted to the Adapa Mandap of Gundicha Temple in Odisha's Puri town on Tuesday.
The deities will be taken to Adapa Mandap, considered their birthplace, by the servitors in a ritual known as ‘Adapa Mandap Bije’.
According to tradition, the proxy divinities of Madan Mohana and Ramkrushna will be first carried into the Gundicha Temple and placed in the Dakshini Ghara, a special area within the temple premises.
Following this, Chakraraj Sudarshan and Lord Balabhadra will be taken inside in the ‘Pahandi Bije’ procession, accompanied by the chanting of ‘Hari bol’, the blowing of conches, and the beating of cymbals.
The deities will reside at Gundicha Temple for a week during their nine-day annual sojourn. From Wednesday, devotees will be able to receive the Adapa Abadha mahaprasad at the Gundicha Temple, according to sources.
A large number of devotees are expected to visit Puri for darshan of the deities at the Gundicha Temple. On the ninth day of the sojourn, the Lords will return to their abode in a procession known as ‘Bahuda Yatra’.
