Kupwara, July 27: One soldier tragically lost his life, while five others, including a Major, sustained injuries during an operation by the Indian Army to thwart an attack by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir. In the exchange of gunfire, a Pakistani terrorist was also killed.
BATs, comprising both Pakistan Army commandos and terrorists, have a history of attempting infiltrations along the LoC. The confrontation in Kupwara's Kamkari area began following intelligence reports indicating terrorist movements.
The deceased soldier and the injured were swiftly evacuated from the operation site, which remained active with ongoing skirmishes, according to the Army.
Sources from the Defence Ministry informed news agency ANI that the attack involved Pakistani BAT personnel, suspected to include regular Pakistan Army troops and their SSG commandos who collaborate closely with terrorist groups.
Just days earlier, on July 24, security forces successfully neutralized an unidentified terrorist in an overnight encounter in Kupwara's Lolab region, during which another soldier had lost his life.
