Bhubaneswar, Sep 27: A Special POCSO Court in Kandhamal district has sentenced a 31-year-old youth to life imprisonment for the rape of a six-year-old girl.
The crime took place on April 16, 2025, in the Gochhapada police station limits. The convict, identified as Anant Kudei, has also been fined ₹60,000. In case of non-payment, he will serve an additional 18 months in prison.
The court further directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide ₹7 lakh as compensation to the survivor.
The trial concluded in just 65 days, with the court relying on the testimony of 14 witnesses, including police officials, doctors, and forensic experts. DNA profiling and medical evidence played a crucial role in securing the conviction, said sources.
