Udala, Sept 3: A tragic accident occurred in Udala block of Mayurbhanj district, resulting in the death of a home guard and leaving four others critically injured after a 108 ambulance collided with a police van during a night patrol.
The deceased home guard has been identified as Laxmidhar Mahanta.
The incident took place late last night in front of the Udala Indian Oil petrol pump. The police van, which was conducting lane patrolling, had stopped near the petrol pump when the ambulance, returning to Udala after dropping off a patient, crashed into the vehicle.
The collision was so severe that it claimed the life of the home guard on the spot. The injured include the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC), the police van driver, the pharmacist, and the ambulance helper. All four were immediately transferred to Baripada in critical condition. Later, the injured ICC was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.
Being informed, Udala police reached the scene, and further investigation is underway.
