Sambalpur, Sep 15: Six more sluice gates of Hirakud Dam were open on Friday to release the flood water.
Due to continous rain in the upper catchment ares, the Hirakud Dam authories opened more gates. Presently, the flood water is being released from a total of 20 sluice gates.
On Thursday, the dam releases this season’s floodwater into Mahanadi river through 14 sluice gates. The people residing in the low lying areas have been warned not to venture into the river bed.
According to official data, water level of Hirakud stood at 628.15 cubic feet on Friday at around 6 am in the morning against its water-holding capacity of 630 cubic feet. The current inflow stood at 2,29,458 cusecs and outflow 2,67,577 cusecs through 20 gates.
