Bhubaneswar, Sept 7: Renowned writer, columnist, and former Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Rabindra Narayan Mishra, passed away in Bhubaneswar after battling a prolonged illness. He was 87.
Recognized for his insightful commentary on spiritual matters, particularly on Jagannath culture, he had served as an officer in the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS). One of the high points of his distinguished career was his tenure as Administrator of the SJTA, during which he played a pivotal role in the progress of the 12th-century shrine.
Mishra, who had been undergoing treatment for age-related ailments at a private hospital, breathed his last in the evening, as confirmed by family sources.
A devout devotee of Lord Jagannath, his passing occurred on the auspicious occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami, which interestingly, was also his birthday.
A veteran columnist for 'Akasha Deepa' and contributor to the periodical 'Kathatie Kahun', Mishra was not only a proficient writer but also an authority on Jagannath culture. He was the elder brother of the esteemed cardiologist and writer, Dr. Kabi Prasad Mishra.
Possessing an extensive understanding of temple culture and traditions in Odisha, Mishra had authored numerous articles on the Jagannath cult.
Upon the news of Mishra’s passing, various eminent personalities and admirers paid their respects at his residence in VSS Nagar, the capital city.
