Balangir, July 16: In a major crackdown on ganja smuggling, Excise officials on Wednesday seized ganja worth over Rs 10 lakh and arrested two persons in this connection in Tushura area of Odisha’s Balangir district.
The identities of the arrestees have not yet been disclosed by the officials.
Acting on a tip-off regarding the illegal transportation of ganja in a Maruti van, the police team chased the vehicle and intercepted it near the Jagannath Temple. During the search, the police found three sacks containing around 50 kilograms of ganja.
The total estimated value of the seized ganja is believed to be around Rs 10 lakh. Both accused individuals were then arrested, and the vehicle along with the ganja was seized.
Further investigation into the matter was underway. Strict action will be taken against those involved in such illegal activities, said the police.
