Champua, Oct 25: An elephant was killed after being hit by a goods train near Uchabali under Bamebari section in Keonjhar district.
Officials said, the elephant was crossing the railway line when the train hit the elephant, killing the animal on spot.
Officials of the forest department reached the spot after receiving the news of the incident.
Forest staffs are on alert as other members of the herd are still moving in the area. The incident, meanwhile, has sparked concern over the safety of the elephants and other wild animals in the region.
