Bhubaneswar: Re certification of the Kalinga Stadium will be held soon for India's maiden World Athletics Continental Tour event, a bronze-level global meet to be held here on 10 August 2025.
The Kalinga Stadium Synthetic track relayed in the year 2017 to host Asian Athletics Championship. Athletic Federation of India (AFI) Treasurer Stanley Johns said “Class two certification is enough to host Continental Tour. After seven years the relaying track needs the recertification, which will doon soon”.
Thanking the Odisha Government’s support for hosting the Continental Tour, the Athletic Federation of India (AFI) Secretary Sandeep Mehta expressed “the Tour will help the athletes to gather valuable ranking points. This event will be qualifying events for the World Athletics Championship scheduled to be held at Tokyo on 13-21 September 2025”.
“The registration for the Continental Tour will be open till 15th July 2025, as expected 100 Indian athletes and 50 overseas athletes from across 10 countries will take part in the day-long competition”, added Mehta.
Odisha successfully hosted many national and international events. The Sports and Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj said “after eight years Odisha is going to host another International athletics event”.
Competitions will be held in men’s 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 5000m, long jump, triple jump, javelin throw and 4x400m relay; women’s 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 100m hurdles, long jump, javelin throw and 4x400m relay and mixed 4x400m relay.
Sports and Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, Sports and Youth Services Department Secretary Bhaskar Joyti Sharma, Director Dipankar Mohapatra, Athletic federation of India (AFI) Secretary Sandeep Mehta, AFI Treasurer Stanley Johns were present in the Press Conference.
