22 Maoist cadres surrender before security forces in C’garh

Under increasing pressure, the 12 Maoists reportedly opted to surrender in a bid to escape the ongoing crackdown. Sources said those who surrendered were involved in multiple incidents of violence and have been active in Maoist strongholds

Raipur, July 11: At least 22 Maoists with a cumulative reward of ₹37.5 lakh in toto, surrendered before security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Friday, police said.

They were active in the Abhujmad forest region, said police.

The Maoists laid down arms and red flags before the police, Border Security Force (BSF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), in a forwarding step towards reformation. 

According to security forces“The Maoists who surrendered today, were active in the Kutul, Nelnar, and Indravati area committees of the CPI (Maoists) Maad division,” Narayanpur superintendent of police (SP) Robinson Guria said.

During the formal proceeding, “The Maoists cited their helplessness during their stay and operations in the forests and expressed their disgrace over with the Maoist ideology”, the SP Said.

 Among those who surrendered, Manku Kunjam (33), a divisional committee member, carried a reward of ₹8 lakh, while three area committee members — Hidme Kunjam (28), Punna Lal alias Boti (26), and Saniram Korram (25) — had a bounty of ₹5 lakh each.

“Apart from it 11 cadres had ₹1 lakh reward each on their heads, while seven others were wanted with a reward of ₹50,000 each,” the SP added.

As a reward for transition, each Maoist who surrendered today received ₹50,000 as immediate assistance and will be rehabilitated under the state government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy.
