Second Earthquake in Two Days Jolts Delhi-NCR
For the second consecutive day, residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) felt earthquake tremors as another moderate quake struck nearby Haryana. The back-to-back seismic events have sparked concern across the region, though no damage or casualties have been reported.
The latest earthquake, with a magnitude of 3.7, occurred on Friday evening at 7:49 PM. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), its epicenter was once again in Jhajjar, Haryana, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
A Pattern of Tremors
This event follows a stronger, 4.4 magnitude earthquake that originated from the same area on Thursday morning. The proximity of the epicenter to the national capital meant that the tremors from both quakes were strong and widely felt.
The repeated shaking caused moments of panic, with many residents of high-rise buildings in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad rushing outdoors for safety.
While authorities have confirmed no damage from either quake, the consecutive tremors serve as a potent reminder of the region's vulnerability. Delhi is located in Seismic Zone IV, making it prone to moderate-to-strong earthquakes. These recent events highlight the importance of preparedness for residents living in the seismically active area.
