New Delhi, Dec 9: Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu is set to address the Lok Sabha today at 12 pm regarding the ongoing crisis at IndiGo, following his remarks in the Rajya Sabha yesterday. The discussion comes in response to widespread delays and cancellations affecting IndiGo’s operations, which have left passengers stranded at airports across the country.

In his Rajya Sabha speech, Minister Naidu clarified that the disruptions were linked to internal issues within the airline, particularly related to crew rostering and operational planning, and not the Aircraft Maintenance and Scheduling System (AMSS). He assured passengers that the airline's operational challenges did not compromise safety standards, emphasizing that stringent Civil Aviation Requirements (CARs) are in place to protect passengers impacted by delays and cancellations.

Naidu stressed that the government is committed to maintaining global aviation standards and continuous technological upgrades in the sector. He further assured that strict action would be taken against any airline operator found violating these standards, stating, “If there is non-adherence by any operator, we will take very strict action.”

Regarding passenger grievances, Naidu expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by long delays and high fares. He confirmed that over five lakh PNR cancellations had been recorded, with Rs 569 crore provided to affected passengers. Additionally, the government has implemented fare caps and created four pricing slabs to prevent exorbitant pricing.

IndiGo, in response to the ongoing crisis, announced a major recovery plan on Monday. The airline confirmed it would operate over 1,800 flights, restoring connectivity and significantly reducing cancellations through better operational planning.
