Bhubaneswar, June 13: Odia cine actress Rupashree Panda who has recently signed for the upcoming movie ‘Misri’ has said MeToo on casting couch.
Following the casting couch allegations levelled against Odia film producer Sanjay Nayak by actresses Prakruti Mishra and Jasmine Ratha on Monday, Rupashree shared her ordeal with some media houses and shed light on the prevalence of the casting couch in Odia film industry. However, she said that some inferior artists are uplifting themselves with the illegal practice whereas the meritorious ones become the worst sufferer to excel for their uncompromising nature.
Citing an issue she faced and suffered a lot for it, during her grooming carrier as a TV actress Rupashree said, “I was dropped from a TV serial at the eleventh hour of shooting as I denied all indecent compromise which the producer & Director intended from me. They cancelled the contract I had signed with the production house then and there, as I could not fulfil their ill needs. Being questioned on the cancellation, they quoted higher hiring price with respect to my experience and performances.”
Panda also said that she had once dared to slap a production house official as he persuaded her to compromise, in order to entertain him. Despite, the repercussion he told that a ten-minute’s compromise will pave her way for a high-rating artist. However, the young artist said she has suffered a lot in her film career for her headstrong nature whereas some handful actresses with less professionalism are grooming up as they allegedly propose to compromise for a growth in their career from the day one of their debut.
Responding to the fresh allegations raised by Prakruti Mishra and Jasmine Rath against producer Sanjay Nayak, Panda said the duo might be replaced due to the urgency of the production house for better output and faster release of their creation. It can’t be corroborated as sufficient allegation amounting to casting couch, she added.
