Bhubaneswar, Aug 29: The Vigilance department has arrested Purendra Kumar Sethy, a Record Supplier at the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) in Bhubaneswar, on charges of possessing disproportionate assets. The arrest followed extensive raids on Wednesday, during which the Vigilance team uncovered a multi-storey building spanning 10,880 square feet in Bhubaneswar, deposits totaling approximately Rs 16.77 lakh, two four-wheelers, and Rs 1.70 lakh in cash.
In a surprising turn, the Vigilance also recovered 16 benami RORs (Land Pattas for various plot sizes) during the raid, which is currently under verification.
The raids were conducted by Vigilance teams comprising three Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), one Assistant Commandant, five Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), and other staff members. The properties raided included Sethy's residence in Bhubaneswar, his paternal house in Jagatsinghpur, and his office room at Samatrapur in Bhubaneswar.
The investigation into Sethy's disproportionate assets is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
