Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has achieved notable recognition in the realm of sanitation, securing two prestigious awards under the Swachh Bharat Mission program during the Swachh Sarvekshan event.
The awards were given to BMC at a special ceremony organized by the Central Government in New Delhi. The ceremony witnessed the honorable Mayor Sulochana Das, Deputy Mayor Manjulata Kaher, Standing Committee Chairman Birchi Narayan Mahasupkar, and Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange receiving the honors from Manoj Joshi, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Government of India.
Bhubaneswar has clinched the coveted title of the cleanest city in Odisha for the year 2023, standing as the sole recipient of this honor in the state. The accolade is a result of continuous evaluations by survey teams, performance assessments, field inspections, and the exemplary sanitation practices observed by citizens in cities with populations exceeding one lakh.
BMC has not only earned accolades at the regional level but has also secured a commendable position globally. It has been conferred with a three-star rating in the Garbage Free City Award. Bhubaneswar now holds the 34th position on the global scale, marking a significant leap from its previous ranking of 80 last year. This remarkable improvement underscores the city's commitment to cleanliness and its transformation into a model of sanitation excellence.
