Bhubaneswar, June 4: BJP Candidate Upasana Mohapatra won the Brahmagiri Assembly Constituency on Tuesday.
Mohapatra who is the daughter of Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra(Lulu), defeated BJD candidate Umakanta Samantaray with a difference of 9,830 votes.
According to the Election Commission of India’s information, Upasana secured 94,710 votes while her contestant Samantaray secured 85,301 votes.
Similarly Congress Candidate Mitrabhanu Mohapatra secured 1833 votes in the election.
Hailing from Brahmagiri, Odisha, Mohapatra is the great granddaughter of Bakshi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar who pioneered the Paika rebellion in East India which happens to be the very first rebellion against the British empire (1817), much before the Sepoy mutiny (1857).
Upasana’s political debut was passed on to her from her late father Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra who was an ace leader of Odisha Congress.
