Amravati, October 19: In a horrific act of violence, a Class 11 girl was set on fire by her former boyfriend in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district on Saturday after an alleged dispute, leaving her fighting for her life with 80% burn injuries.
The incident took place near Badvel town, where the accused, Vignesh, met the victim and poured petrol on her before setting her ablaze.
According to police reports, the two had known each other since childhood.
Recently, Vignesh had married another woman but wanted to maintain ties with the victim.
On the day of the incident, he convinced her to meet him by threatening to harm himself. The victim, who had boarded an autorickshaw from her college, was joined by Vignesh during the journey. They traveled to an isolated area near a plywood factory, where the gruesome crime occurred.
Farmers working nearby heard the victim’s cries and rushed to her aid, extinguishing the flames before alerting authorities. The girl was immediately hospitalized, first in Badvel and later at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Kadapa.
District officials, including Kadapa Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan, have formed multiple teams to apprehend the accused, who fled the scene.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has condemned the act, directing the police to expedite the arrest and ensure the victim receives the best medical care possible.
