Noida, Aug 12: Noida International Airport witnessed temporary waterlogging near its terminal and parking area following extremely heavy rainfall on Tuesday, triggering criticism and online mockery over its drainage system.

Videos circulating on social media showed rainwater accumulated in the parking zone and the passage connecting the terminal with the parking area. The visuals quickly drew reactions from users, with some sarcastically referring to the airport as a “seaport.”

However, airport authorities clarified that the waterlogging was temporary and did not affect flight operations or the airport’s overall functioning. According to the authorities, the water accumulated after exceptionally heavy rainfall within a short period and was cleared by airport teams in less than 30 minutes.

Officials said teams were continuing to monitor the situation and remained prepared to ensure smooth passenger movement.

The incident comes months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Phase I of Noida International Airport on March 28, 2026. Located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, the airport began commercial flight operations on June 15.

Developed at an estimated investment of ₹11,200 crore, Phase I has an initial capacity to handle around 12 million passengers annually, with plans to expand capacity to 70 million passengers in later phases.
