Youth killed in elephant attack in Odisha’s Sundargarh district

Sundargarh, Oct 15: A 42-year-old man was killed in a tragic elephant attack late Tuesday night in Bada Dalki village under the Birda section of Kuarmunda forest range in Sundargarh district.

The deceased has been identified as Chaho Ekka, a resident of Bada Dalki. According to forest officials and local sources, a wild elephant from the Rajgangpur forest area entered the village on Tuesday night, causing panic among residents. The animal reportedly strayed into the fields and began destroying crops.

In an attempt to drive the elephant away, villagers gathered near the fields. During the chaos, Chaho Ekka was attacked by the elephant and sustained severe injuries.

Villagers rushed him to the Rourkela Government Hospital for treatment, but he was declared dead upon arrival by attending doctors.

Forest officials have initiated an investigation into the incident. The local administration has assured compensation and support to the bereaved family.
