Samsung may introduce Galaxy S27 Pro with advanced privacy display technology

Seoul [South Korea], Nov 2: Samsung Electronics is reportedly planning to expand its flagship smartphone portfolio with a new Galaxy S27 Pro model, as the company looks to attract more consumers towards premium devices and strengthen profitability amid rising component costs, according to a report by The Korea Herald.

Samsung Display is expected to begin manufacturing advanced organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels featuring built-in privacy technology this month for the anticipated device.

Citing display industry researcher UBI Research, the report said Samsung Display could manufacture around 7 lakh panels in November, ahead of the expected launch of the Galaxy S27 series early next year. The proposed Pro variant would join the standard, Plus and Ultra models, expanding Samsung's flagship lineup to four devices.

According to the report, the Pro and Ultra variants will feature the company's latest M16 OLED materials and integrated privacy display technology. The standard and Plus models, meanwhile, are expected to use the older M14 materials and will not include the feature.

The privacy display technology, first introduced with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, limits screen visibility from side angles without requiring an additional privacy screen protector. Users can also enable the feature selectively for specific applications and notifications.

Its inclusion in the Pro model could give consumers access to Samsung's advanced display technology without requiring them to purchase the more expensive Ultra variant.

The reported expansion comes as Samsung faces mounting pressure to improve its smartphone business profitability. Its Mobile eXperience and Networks divisions together posted an operating loss of 600 billion won (USD 447 million) in the third quarter, partly due to increasing component costs.

In its latest earnings announcement, the company identified improving its flagship product mix by offering differentiated experiences across customer segments as a key priority for 2027.

The anticipated pricing strategy could further encourage consumers to opt for premium models. The Galaxy S27 Pro is speculated to carry a starting price of USD 1,399, around USD 100 lower than the projected USD 1,499 starting price of the Ultra variant. The standard and Plus models are expected to be priced at USD 999 and USD 1,199, respectively, according to estimates cited by The Korea Herald.

Samsung has already raised prices across its Galaxy S26 lineup amid increasing memory costs, with further price hikes anticipated for the S27 series.

However, the company has not officially confirmed the Galaxy S27 Pro's specifications, production timeline or pricing, the report added. (With ANI inputs)
