Debt-ridden youth commits suicide in Odisha's Jajpur district

Jajpur, Aug 12: In a tragic turn of events, a 22-year-old minor, identified as Srinivasa alias Lincoln, ended his life in Kadubani village under the Kaliapani police jurisdiction of Jajpur district late last night.
Lincoln, the only son of Brajbandhu Nayak, had dinner with his family last night. When, he didn’t respond, the concerned family members knocked on his door. Receiving no response, they forcibly entered the room to found Lincoln's lifeless body hanging from the ceiling.
Employed as a contract worker in a private mining company, Lincoln had allegedly incurred significant financial losses amounting to several lakhs of rupees while playing the 'Daman' game on his mobile phone. To mitigate these losses, he had taken loans from various groups through his mother. Facing relentless pressure from moneylenders to repay the debts, Lincoln is believed to have taken the drastic step of ending his life.
Kaliapani police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the suicide. Officials are examining his bank records, which may shed further light on the reasons behind his decision. The police have seized the body and registered a case concerning the death.
