Bhubaneswar, August 18: A gold chain snatching attempt near AIIMS Bhubaneswar was foiled after a woman bravely caught hold of one of the alleged miscreants on Tuesday morning.

According to reports, the woman, a resident of Balangir, had come to AIIMS along with a family member for medical treatment. She stepped outside the hospital in the morning to have tea when two miscreants allegedly arrived on a motorcycle and attempted to snatch her gold chain.

The accused had reportedly followed the woman before making the attempt. During the incident, she sustained an injury to her left hand but managed to catch one of the alleged snatchers.

Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the spot and overpowered the accused. They reportedly thrashed him before handing him over to the police.

The gold chain is estimated to weigh around 12 to 13 grams.

The woman has lodged a complaint at Khandagiri Police Station. Police are questioning the arrested accused to determine his identity, his place of residence and whether he is involved in other chain-snatching incidents in Bhubaneswar.
