Bhubaneswar, August 7: A tribal woman was allegedly gang-raped by three miscreants, including two minors, in a forested area of Angul district, police reported on Sunday.
According to the complaint filed by the victim, the incident occurred on August 4 while she was returning home from a hospital visit in Chhendipada, accompanied by her nephew. Around 3 PM, the two stopped near a petrol pump to refuel their motorcycle and have a meal. During the break, the woman stepped into a nearby forested area to attend to nature’s call.
While she was alone, three miscreants reportedly arrived on a tractor and forcibly took her to a secluded location away from the main road, where the assault occurred. The accused fled the scene immediately afterward.
The woman returned home and informed her family, following which she filed a formal complaint with the police on August 5.
Acting swiftly, local police arrested three suspects within 24 hours, including two minors. Police also recovered key evidence, including the tractor allegedly used in the crime, two mobile phones, and clothing belonging to both the accused and the victim.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police have assured that all necessary legal procedures are being followed to ensure justice.
