Bhubaneswar, Jan 10: As the impending election approaches, political fervor is intensifying within the stronghold of the Phulabani assembly constituency, a bastion of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

Numerous contenders, including the incumbent MLA Angada Kanhar, former MLAs, the Block Chairman, and several others, have commenced active lobbying efforts to secure the BJD ticket.

However, a fresh entrant, Manjulata Kanhar, is generating considerable buzz within the political landscape of Phulbani. Currently serving as the Deputy Mayor of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Manjulata has emerged as a formidable candidate for the BJD ticket.

Hailing from Phulbani, Manjulata has been noticeably increasing her presence in the constituency, participating in various local programs and events.

It is noteworthy that BJD leader Naveen Patnaik appointed Manjulata as the Deputy Mayor of Bhubaneswar following the last municipal election.

Considering the party's trend of changing candidates in each of the last five elections in Phulabani, there is speculation that the BJD might adhere to its 'No Repeat Formula' and introduce a fresh face this time. The speculation further suggests that the party may strategically play the woman card by nominating Manjulata Kanhar as its candidate in the upcoming election.
