Mental well-being transforms learning outcomes
B.Ed. students at Utkal University’s Department of Teacher’s Education (UDTE) recently organized a vital extramural lecture titled "Mental Health: Healthy Mind, Healthy Classroom." This gathering addressed the escalating psychological pressures facing the current generation of learners. Prof. Rabindra Garada, as Chief Guest, introduced a practical framework for understanding mental strain, defining stress as the result of pressure divided by resilience.
Modern academic environments often foster intense competition and perfectionism, leading to heightened anxiety levels. Prof. Garada noted that while external pressure remains a constant in postmodern education, students can significantly lower their stress by strengthening personal resilience. He advised maintaining a disciplined routine and avoiding the habit of stalling tasks. Completing smaller goals with absolute clarity proves more effective than attempting to manage an overwhelming workload without focus.
Diverse perspectives enriched the session, with Dr. Tanaya Mohanty discussing how social structures and inequality influence the learning experience. This focus on inclusivity is particularly relevant in Odisha, where educational institutions are increasingly bridging the gap between traditional values and modern academic demands. Additionally, Dr. Jasmeet Kaur clarified the difference between general mental health and clinical illness, urging students to prioritize self-awareness and emotional stability.
Effective time management remains the cornerstone of a healthy academic life. By fostering a supportive atmosphere, educators can ensure that classrooms remain spaces of growth rather than sources of distress. This interactive session concluded by reinforcing that a stable mind is the most important tool for any successful student.
