Two friends drown in Brahmani River at Jajpur

Jajpur, Oct 11: In a tragic incident, two friends drowned in the Brahmani River while taking a bath on Wednesday.

The incident took place at the Gokarneswar Ghat near Jaraka under the Dharmasala police station in Jajpur district in the afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Govind Rana of Deoda in Dharmasala and his friend Soumya Ranjan Maharana of Kumari near Jaraka.

Sources said, the youths went to the river ghat for bathing. Meanwhile, they slipped into the deep water while swimming and drowned.

Local people informed the fire brigade and swung into action to rescue them. Before the arrival of the fire services team, locals rescued them and admitted them to the Dharmasala Community Health Centre. However, doctors declared the duo dead.

Being aware of the matter, the police seized the bodies and sent them for postmortem.
