Berhampur, Sept 12: Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly storming into the Excise Office, abusing government officials, and issuing threats after the seizure of illegal liquor. The incident, which took place on September 9, is being treated with seriousness by the Berhampur Superintendent of Police.
According to reports, the Excise Department had raided the shop of a known liquor trader, Narayan Sahu, and seized a large quantity of illicit liquor. In the aftermath of the seizure, Narayan's brother, Tofan Kumar Sahu, and his son, Sagar Kumar Sahu, allegedly entered the Excise Office and demanded the return of the confiscated liquor.
When officials refused to release the seized stock, the duo reportedly resorted to verbal abuse and issued threats. A formal complaint was subsequently filed at the Baidyanathpur Police Station.
Acting promptly, police arrested Tofan and Sagar. However, Narayan Sahu, the main accused in the illegal liquor trade, remains absconding. Police have launched a manhunt to trace his whereabouts.
Given the gravity of the incident, which involved unauthorized entry into a government office and intimidation of public servants, senior police officials, including the Berhampur SP, are closely monitoring the investigation.
