Kendrapara, Aug 27: A three-day bird census is scheduled to take place in the mangrove forests of Bhitarkanika National Park from August 30 to September 1.
The survey will focus on important nesting sites at Matha Dia, Laxmiprasad Dia, Durgaprasad Dia, and Bali Dia.
Varadaraj Gaonkar, Divisional Forest Officer (Wildlife) of the Rajnagar Division, explained that the census will concentrate on colonial nesting birds.
“This is a specialized form of population estimation. The survey will cover four nesting locations—three within the Kanika Range and one in the Rajnagar Range,” he said while speaking to the media.
The objective of the census is to evaluate the nesting behaviors, population numbers, and habitat conditions of the bird colonies in these areas.
