Cuttack, April 6: Police have uncovered a broker racket functioning near SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, arresting three individuals accused of deceiving patients and their families under the guise of arranging blood.
Reports indicate that the accused specifically targeted vulnerable patients and their attendants who were struggling to obtain blood from the hospital’s blood bank. They would offer quick assistance, collect money, and then vanish without fulfilling their promises.
The scam came to light after Vivekananda Behera from Balikuda filed a complaint at Mangalabag Police Station, alleging he had been cheated by the group.
Following an investigation, police arrested three suspects and produced them in court.
Police believe this may be part of a larger network operating in and around the hospital. The group is suspected of misleading patients, directing them to private hospitals, and extracting money with false assurances of arranging blood or hospital beds.
With a high influx of patients from across the state, many individuals reportedly fall victim to such middlemen, often losing money during critical medical emergencies.
