Cupertino may introduce its debut foldable as iPhone Duo
Hours before introducing its next generation smartphone lineup, Apple appears ready to surprise industry observers with a brand new title for its first foldable device. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman indicates the dual-screen handset could debut as the iPhone Duo rather than widely anticipated names like iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra. This branding honors earlier dual-purpose hardware from the company, including the vintage PowerBook Duo and modern MagSafe Duo charger.

Unexpected Moniker for Dual Screen Hardware
Market analysts long expected Cupertino to replicate Samsung's naming playbook, which established the consumer foldable category in 2019 with its Galaxy Z Fold series. Instead, internal deliberations settled on Duo to highlight two distinct working screens in one frame. When shut, the unit operates like a standard mobile phone. Opened wide, it expands into a compact tablet workspace that supports side-by-side applications, multitasking workflows, and digital stylus input through Apple Pencil.
Premium Specifications and Pricing Structure
Engineers packed high-end internal components into the book-style chassis to prevent screen creases. Performance relies on the upcoming A20 Pro silicon chip paired with a proprietary C2 cellular modem and a magnetic hinge mechanism. Photography features two 48-megapixel sensors on the rear panel alongside a single 12-megapixel front lens for video calls. Rising costs from global memory chip shortages pushed initial $1,999 pricing targets as high as $2,199. Retail configurations now reportedly start near $2,000 for 256GB storage, with maximum capacity models approaching $3,000 in white and dark blue finishes.
