Satwik and Chirag clinch their maiden China Masters title
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty secured their first China Masters Super 750 title on Sunday with a spectacular comeback victory. Indian badminton has experienced remarkable growth globally over the last decade, and this latest triumph further cements the country's dominance on the international court. Overcoming a one-game deficit, they defeated local favourites He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu 11-21, 21-13, 21-17 in a gruelling final lasting one hour and ten minutes.
Early in the clash, relentless speed from the Chinese duo pushed the Indians onto the defensive. Falling behind 0-5 quickly, Satwik and Chirag struggled to find their rhythm during the 11-21 opening game loss. However, they drastically changed their approach in the second game. Chirag began intercepting the shuttle earlier at the net, which forced their opponents to cover more ground. This adjustment improved their defence and allowed them to attack with varied combinations rather than relying on single hits.
Nerve-Wracking Final Decider
Winning the second game 21-13 set the stage for an intense final act. Both teams fought hard, with He and Ren holding a narrow 11-10 lead at the break. Satwik applied pressure from the back of the court by lifting the shuttle toward the Chinese pair's backhand. Despite some unforced errors, the Indians maintained their aggressive play. Trailing for much of the third game, they finally edged ahead at 18-17. Satwik executed a brilliant flick serve that caught their opponents off balance, earning match point.
Securing this victory marked their 10th BWF World Tour title and improved their head-to-head record against He and Ren to 3-0. Adding to their Singapore Open Super 750 win and Thailand Open Super 500 runner-up finish this season, the pair finally erased the heartbreak of their 2023 and 2025 defeats in China.
