New Delhi, May 19: The Supreme Court has on Monday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe an FIR against Madhya Pradesh BJP minister Kunwar Vijay Shah over his “shameful” remarks targeting Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. The remarks were made after Col Qureshi briefed the media on Operation Sindoor.
A bench led by Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh directed the formation of an SIT with three senior Madhya Pradesh-cadre IPS officers not originally from the state, including one woman officer. The team must be set up by May 20, with the status report due on May 28.
Calling Shah’s comments “filthy, crass and shameful,” the court rejected his public apology as insincere. While it stayed his arrest, the court ordered full cooperation in the probe.
The FIR was earlier directed by the MP High Court, which had taken suo motu cognisance after Shah’s speech went viral.
