Additionally, using fake ingredients like tomato and chilly ketchup, which are easily available in the market at lower prices compared to original and branded ones, in preparing the dishes worsens the problems even more.

“Street foods are often high in calories, unhealthy fats, and sodium. Regular consumption can lead to nutritional imbalances, weight gain, and related health issues like hypertension and diabetes. It’s crucial for the youth to be mindful of these risks and to balance their diet with healthier options,” said Riya Dash, a Nutritionist.

“The primary concern with street food is food safety. The risk of foodborne illnesses is high due to poor hygiene practices. Contaminated water, improperly stored ingredients, and lack of proper sanitation can lead to gastrointestinal infections and other serious health problems. It's important for consumers to be cautious and choose vendors who follow good hygiene practices,” said another health expert.

While the allure of street food is undeniable, it is essential to strike a balance. Moderation and mindfulness can help mitigate health risks.

  • Choose Wisely: Opt for vendors who maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
