Washington DC, May 12: “I stopped nuclear combat between India & Pakistan that was about to come disastrous and fatal”, said Trump on Monday referring to the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions.
United States President Donald Trump, during a press conference on Monday, said that he asked both India and Pakistan to stop fighting and maintain complete ceasefire.
Trump claimed that he persuaded both the nations, to go continue ceasefire, assuring ''a lot of trade with them."
Trump claimed that the US administration played a key role in brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, asserting that his approach to diplomacy through trade pressure helped avert what he described as a potentially "bad nuclear war."
"On Saturday my administration helped broker a full and immediate ceasefire - I think a permanent one - between India and Pakistan ending a dangerous conflict of two nations with lots of nuclear weapons," Trump said.
"We stopped a nuclear conflict. I think it could have been a bad nuclear war. Millions of people could have been killed so I’m very proud about that," he added.
Lauding the leadership of both the countries and the Armed Forces Trump said, “I’m very proud to let you know that the leadership of India and Pakistan was unwavering, powerful — but unwavering in both cases. They really were from the standpoint of having the strength and wisdom and fortitude to fully know and understand the gravity of the situation.”
He also mentioned ongoing and upcoming trade negotiations with both countries: “We’re going to do a lot of trade with both Pak and India.
“We’re negotiating with India right now. We’ll soon be negotiating with Pakistan on international trade”, Trump added.
