Assam, June 3: Following the arrest of Sharmistha Panoli, a law scholar of Pune University & Instgran influencer, Wajahat Khan, the man behind her arrest, has gone missing.
He has reportedly fled to evade police action as a number of complaints have been registered against Khan, alleging hate speech.
A case against Wajahat Khan has been filed in Assam. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that a police team would seek his arrest in West Bengal soon.
Another complaint has been filed by advocate Vineet Jindal with the Delhi Police. Jain has accused Khan of hate speech and religious defamation.
Apart from it, the Shri Ram Swabhiman Parishad, a charitable trust, lodged a complaint against Khan at Kolkata's Garden Reach Police Station, the same station where he had initially filed his complaint against Sharmistha Panoli.
In its complaint to Kolkata's Garden Reach Police Station, it accused Wajahat Khan of sharing "malicious and inflammatory posts" on social media that were "intentionally directed toward the Hindu community, its sacred beliefs, and revered deities".
Now, with multiple complaints, Wajahat Khan has landed in trouble as a police team is chasing him to arrest.
Worth mentioning, Panoli was held in Gurugaon by the WB Police on Sunday on the complaints of Wajahat Khan backed by AIMIM spokesperson Waris Pathan.
Khan's complaint was based on Panoli's video, which she alleged "promoted communal disharmony and insulted religious sentiments".
The video, which Panoli later deleted and apologised for, included remarks against Muslim Bollywood celebrities and referred to Islamic beliefs.
She then faced massive backlash, including demands for her arrest from the AIMIM spokesperson.
