Moscow, March 27: Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India, as confirmed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday, according to Russian news agency TASS.
Speaking at the "Russia and India: Toward a New Bilateral Agenda" conference via video, Lavrov stated that India is currently making preparations for President Putin’s visit. The conference was jointly organized by the Indian Embassy in Russia and the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC).
Lavrov confirmed that Putin’s visit would take place in response to an invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had earlier visited Russia following his re-election in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
"President Vladimir Putin has accepted the invitation from the Indian head of government. A visit by the Russian head of state to the Republic of India is currently being prepared," Lavrov said, as quoted by TASS.
Prime Minister Modi had visited Russia in July of the previous year at the invitation of President Putin for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. Earlier in February, TASS also reported that Prime Minister Modi might attend the May 9 parade in Moscow's Red Square, which will commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. According to a military source cited by TASS, Modi’s visit to the parade has a "high probability."
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning a visit to the May 9 parade in Moscow. It is highly likely that it will take place," the source said, as reported by TASS.
