New Delhi, June 11: Road accidents in India claimed 1,77,175 lives in 2024, with the country recording over 4.87 lakh accidents during the year, according to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' report Road Accidents in India 2024.
The report revealed that 4,87,707 road accidents were reported by police departments across states and Union Territories, marking a 1.48 per cent increase compared to the previous year. These accidents also left 4,71,441 people injured.
On average, India witnessed 56 road accidents and 20 fatalities every hour in 2024, highlighting the continuing challenge of road safety across the country.
