Puri, July 7: Puri Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb performed the ‘Chhera Panhara’ rituals on the chariots of Lord Jagannath, his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra after the Pahandi Rituals concluded.

Gajapati arrived on the Grand Road in the bejewelled Palanquin and performed the ceremonial sweeping of the three chariot floors with a golden broom as the Adya Sevak (Prime servitor).

In the past, the king would sweep the streets before the chariots set out. Over time, this ritual has been reduced to the king sweeping only the chariots.

Before this, idols of the holy trinity were placed on their respective chariots, following the spectacular Pahandi rituals.

The three majestic chariots now stand tall in front of the Singha Dwar of the temple, facing east towards the Gundicha temple. They have been prepared and will be pulled by devotees hereafter.
