Raipur, July 19: At least six Naxals were killed in a fierce gunbattle with security forces on Friday in the dense Abujhmad forest area of Narayanpur district, Chhattisgarh.

According to Bastar Range Inspector General of Police P. Sundarraj, security personnel launched a search operation early Friday morning after receiving intelligence inputs about a gathering of Naxals in the region. The encounter took place when the patrolling team came face-to-face with the armed group in the afternoon.
"The Naxals opened fire upon spotting the jawans, who retaliated immediately. Following the exchange, the Naxals fled deeper into the forest," IG Sundarraj said.
During a subsequent search of the encounter site, forces recovered the bodies of six Naxals along with a cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 rifle, an SLR, other firearms, explosives, and various essential supplies.
The operation is ongoing, and additional forces have been deployed to comb the surrounding areas, officials confirmed.
