A second low-pressure system is expected to form over the northwestern Bay of Bengal around September 10 or 11, potentially bringing more rainfall to eastern India.

Bhubaneswar, Aug 29: After a prolonged dry spell, rainfall activity in Odisha is set to intensify in the coming days, with two low-pressure systems expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal in early and mid-September. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a two-week forecast indicating a significant change in weather patterns across the state.

According to the IMD, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal around September 3. The system is expected to move in a west-northwest direction, advancing inland along the coastal regions of West Bengal and northern Odisha. It may intensify into a depression by September 5.

A second low-pressure system is expected to form over the northwestern Bay of Bengal around September 10 or 11, potentially bringing more rainfall to eastern India.

Forecasts suggest heavy rainfall is likely in Odisha between August 31 and September 3, particularly in the coastal and adjoining interior districts.

On Friday, thunderstorms with isolated rainfall are expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.

Rainfall activity is expected to increase further on Saturday, affecting several parts of the state. From August 31 onwards, intense showers are likely in some regions.

Odisha has been witnessing reduced rainfall in recent weeks, leading to dry and drought-like conditions in many areas. However, sporadic showers have been recorded in some districts. With the changing weather, authorities and farmers alike are hopeful for improved rainfall in September.
