Radicalised flydubai aviator stabs Indian captain during horrific flight
Omani national Hamam al-Hammami faces a high-level terrorism investigation after allegedly stabbing Indian Captain Smit Machchhar inside the cockpit of a flydubai flight bound for Israel. Flight FZ1073, traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv with 174 people aboard, plunged nearly 14,000 feet in under 30 seconds during the violent altercation. Machchhar managed to unlock the armored door despite his severe injuries, allowing passengers and crew members to intervene. Passengers, including Yaniv Hayoun, rushed forward to subdue the attacker while an onboard dentist provided immediate medical aid to the bleeding captain. Two off-duty pilots traveling as passengers took control of the Boeing 737, executing an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where security forces detained the suspect before extraditing him to the United Arab Emirates.

Extremist history and flying ban
Intelligence officials confirm that Oman Air had already flagged al-Hammami as a severe security risk in 2024. Authorities banned him from flying after discovering radical material in his possession during his co-pilot training, relegating him to an administrative role. Born to an Omani father and a Syrian mother, he reportedly spent significant time in Syria, where intelligence agencies suspect he absorbed radical ideologies. Despite this documented flying restriction, he bypassed international security vetting to work for Royal Air Maroc before joining flydubai eight months ago. Oman officially does not recognize Israel, making his clearance to fly the Tel Aviv route a central focus of the ongoing intelligence probe.

Social Media and terror links
Multinational investigators from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Israel are currently examining his digital footprint to establish if he acted alone or coordinated with militant factions. Deleted LinkedIn posts connected to his name surfaced shortly after the attack, featuring cockpit footage of an Israeli El Al aircraft. The video ended with images of former Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri and a notorious suicide bomber. Another post displayed Islamic holy sites alongside poetry celebrating martyrdom and defying humiliation. Machchhar continues to receive medical treatment in Abu Dhabi as authorities reconstruct how a radicalised aviator breached commercial aviation defenses.
