Puri, Sept 17: A major inspection drive was carried out at several khaja godowns and manufacturing units across Puri city on Thursday morning following repeated complaints of substandard or adulterated khaja being sold to devotees at high prices.
The joint operation was conducted under the leadership of the City DSP, with teams from Puri Town Police, the Food Safety Department, and the Weights and Measures Department taking part.
Raids and inspections are underway at several khaja godowns and factories located in areas including Sri Krishna Cinema Lane, Bada Danda and Swargadwar, as well as nearby localities.
During the inspections, officials are checking the quality of khaja, possible manipulation of weight, packaging standards and food safety licences.
The action comes amid complaints that devotees visiting Puri are sometimes being charged high prices for poor-quality or adulterated khaja.
Officials said that if any violations of rules are found during the inspection, legal action will be taken against the concerned traders.
