Bhubaneswar, July 14: President Droupadi Murmu begins a two-day official visit to her home state of Odisha today. She is scheduled to arrive at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar this afternoon and will proceed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, where she will be the Chief Guest at the institution’s 5th convocation ceremony.
Established in 2003 under the vision of Bharat Ratna awardee and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, AIIMS-Bhubaneswar has emerged as a premier center for medical education, research, and healthcare in India.
During the ceremony, President Murmu will present 59 gold medals to 31 outstanding students and confer degrees to 643 graduating healthcare professionals. The event is expected to be attended by several prominent figures, including Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The President’s visit has generated much excitement among the students, faculty, and staff at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, who are proud to welcome the distinguished daughter of Odisha back to the campus.
On Tuesday, the second day of her visit, President Murmu will attend the 13th convocation of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack. She will also lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of three buildings at Ravenshaw Girls’ High School.
In addition, the President will take part in the birth anniversary celebrations of Adikabi Sarala Das, a revered 15th-century Odia poet and scholar, where she will present the Kalinga Ratna Award for 2024.
Security has been heightened in both Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to ensure the smooth conduct of the President’s engagements.
