Bhubaneswar, May 25: The Pragyan Foundation celebrated Buddha Purnima on a grand note at Badajharilo in Maitri Vihar on outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Thursday.

Over 200 devotees attended the grand ceremony and expressed their faith towards Buddhism and the foundation. Apart from this, more than 50 youths attended the inaugural function of the ‘Youth Camp’ that day.

On the occasion, popular Canadian Buddhist monk Bhante Ananda explained how the teaching of Lord Buddha is unique, a scientific attitude involving free thinking and how it benefits people and their lives with suitable examples.

It is worth noting that Lord Buddha was born on this day in Lumbini, located in the Terai plains of southern Nepal. He left home at the age of 29 to free the world from the shadow of sorrow for the benefit of human society. After six long years of rigorous meditation, he attained ‘Nirvana’ under a peepal tree at Bodh Gaya in Bihar on ‘Vaishakha Purnima’. After attaining nirvana, he taught the same teachings to people on the principle of 'Bahujan Hitay Bahujan Sukhay' for 45 long years for the betterment of the society.

At the age of 80, he attained Mahaparinirvana, the death of the Buddha, in today’s Kushinagar, a town in the Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh.
